THE ONE WHO ENDURES, CONQUERS! TONY CAIROLI RELIVES THE RACE ADRENALINE WITH SIDI

Nine-time World champion, Tony Cairoli is considered the greatest MX racer of all time. Always representing the pride of the Sidi squad, he has lifted the name of the company based near Treviso with his exhilarating victories and phenomenal actions we cannot forget. Tony’s hunger for achievements – that was unfortunately penalized last season  – is not quenched, not even in this time of lockdown. We have asked him to talk about his 2019 season to let us feel some adrenaline again, even without live sport.

The most beautiful memory from last season is my success in the first race of the MXGP Championship at the Neuquen circuit in Argentina. The opening of the World Championship is always a special occasion to me. To resume racing means to resume challenging my own limits, and there is nothing more satisfying than that.

I was forced to withdraw during the qualifying sessions on that Saturday, as I had a mechanical and, so was 28th at the start, but that did not mean I would give up. I chose very narrow and dangerous trajectories, I risked everything – after the first bend I was already up front. And then, I remember exactly the trajectory I had before entering the Waves section. It did allow me to make up plenty of ground. I wasn’t very optimistic. In Neuquen it is extremely important to stay up front from the beginning, because there isn’t much difference in times on the lap and making up time is really hard. But in the end, I made it. It was an unexpected and wonderful success, that I secured on one of my favorite circuits.

I miss the pre-race tension and the racing excitment. Now, nobody knows when we will be able to go back to racing. The whole world is going through a difficult and uncertain situation, but I can’t say that in MX there is any time when things are easy. We are used to getting the best achievements by overcoming the worst. So, come on… the one who endures, conquers!
