GOING FOR IT AT THE GIRO. FIND OUT ALL ABOUT THE SIDI ROSTER… - 28 Sidi riders in the race. Sidi Ergo 5 is the official shoe for the Giro d’Italia.

The 2019 Giro d’Italia is about to kick off. This will be the 102nd edition of the Corsa Rosa. It’s going to be a long, pink adventure from Saturday, May 11th to Sunday, June 2nd, criss-crossing the entire peninsula, starting from Bologna and winding up in Verona. We’re looking forward to 21 stages of fantastic cycling and plenty of excitement, which will be punctuated by victories, defeats, superhuman efforts and over all lots of thrills.

The riders will be the true stars of the show. There will be 22 formations at the starting grid (18 World Tour + 4 Wild Card teams) made up of 8 riders each, for a total of 176 athletes. Sidi shoes will be worn by 28 of them; they are distributed over 8 teams and represent 11 countries. These contenders will be using the Shot and Wire 2 Carbon models, which are the top line in Sidi’s road cycling collection.

There are 2 teams that are entirely sponsored by Sidi.

One is Team Bahrain Merida. Here the headliner of the squadron is obviously none other than “The Shark”, Vincenzo Nibali. He is one of just seven riders who have won at least one edition of all three Grand Tours, having won the 2014 Tour de France, the 2010 Vuelta Espana and the 2013 and 2016 Giro d'Italia races. Of course, this year he is here gunning for the maglia rosa. Nibali has made it to the podium in the Giro a total of five times: twice as the winner, once as the second placed rider in 2011 and in third place twice, in 2010 and 2017. He will be supported in his run for the pink jersey by his team mates: Valerio Agnoli, Grega Bole, Damiano Caruso, Andrea Garosio, Kristijan Koren, Antonio Nibali and Domenico Pozzovivo.

The other squadron is Team Katusha Alpecin. Here the captain is Russia’s Ilnur Zakarin, whose career has already taken him to the podium at the Vuelta, where he was third in 2015; he was also the fifth ranked rider in the 2017 Giro. He will be riding with: Enrico Battaglin, Jenthe Biermans, Marco Haller, Reto Hollenstein, Viacheslav Kuznetsov, Daniel Navarro and Dmitry Strakhov.

The showcase of Sidi riders at the Giro continues with four guys from Team Ineos: Sebastian Henao, Jhonatan Narvaez, Ivan Sosa and Pavel Sivakov. Clearly the Ineos formation is feeling the absence of Egan Bernal, who should have been the captain of the team, but he was knocked out of the race by a fractured clavicle suffered in a fall during one of his last training sessions in preparation for the Giro d’Italia. Unfortunately, the young Colombian rider’s pink dreams will have to wait, but we are sure that he will be able to come back soon, stronger and more motivated than ever.

Running through the start list, Sidi stars also include the Colombian Esteban Chaves (Mitchelton-Scott), who has already stood out on the climbs of previous editions of the Giro. On the other front, for all-out sprints Sidi will be able to count on Arnaud Demare (FDJ) and Jakub Mareczko (CCC Team).

Sidi Ergo 5 is the official shoe for the Giro d’Italia.

This particular Ergo 5 is from the Matt Line, which is the new collection of flat colours presented by Sidi, which were an immediate hit with the public. The chosen colour combo for the Giro shoe is flat grey/black. This model is further enhanced by the box it comes in, which features appealing graphics. However, that’s not all; inside the box there is the super handy shoe bag and a pair of  pink socks in the Giro style.

The Sidi Ergo 5  Limited Edition Giro d’Italia  shoe is already available in the finest cycling shops. This model is destined to become a valuable collector’s item for all fans of two wheels. This shoe is also part of the Corsa Rosa’s official merchandise, so it can also be purchased on the Giro d’Italia e-shop, as well as on the road during every day of the race at the official store in the Giro Village.
