SIDI CHAMPIONS IN THE PACK AT THE GIRO D’ITALIA - They will be attacking, breaking, sprinting and taking on incredible climbs…dreaming of the pink jersey.

For the first time in history the Giro d’Italia will kick off from beyond European territory, in Israel. It’s going to be a memorable edition of the Corsa Rosa. We’re coming up on three extraordinary weeks, from Jerusalem to Rome, covering a total of 3562 km and featuring victories, defeats, tremendous efforts and most of all, plenty of thrills and excitement.

The riders are the stars in this great show. 22 formations will be lining up for the start (18 World Tour teams + 4 Wild Card teams), each made up of 8 riders, for a total of 176 athletes. Out of these, no less than 48 riders from 13 different teams representing 20 countries use Sidi shoes; they are supplied with the Shot and Wire Carbon models, which represent the top of the line in Sidi’s road cycling collection.

There are 4 teams that are entirely Sidi branded, where all the riders use shoes made by the company from Maser (Teviso). The Astana Pro Team features big names like Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez and Spaniard Luis Leon Sanchez; both appeared in top form in the recent Tour of the Alps. Team Bahrain Merida can count on Domenico Pozzovivo for the climbs and for the GC; then there is Niccolò Bonifazio for the sprints and a rider as important as Giovanni Visconti, who should do well. Team Katusha Alpecin has the star power of Germany’s Tony Martin, 4-time World Champion in the time trial. Wilier Triestina – Selle Italia will line up Jakub Mareczko for the sprints, along with lots of young riders who, like everyone else, will be trying their best to light up the race on the attack, doing their best to honour their team’s participation in the Giro.

The cast of Sidi riders going to the Giro continues, and of course the name Chris Froome has earned a lot of attention. After the victories he obtained in the Tour and the Vuelta, the Brit from Team Sky is hoping to achieve the goal of taking home a pink jersey as well, thus capturing all 3 major stage races.

Staying in the Sidi house, among Froome’s rivals and all the riders vying for final victory in the Giro, Colombian Esteban Chaves (Mitchelton-Scott) will certainly be one to watch; he managed to don the maglia rosa in 2016, when he ended up taking second place overall in the Corsa Rosa, right behind Vincenzo Nibali.

The 101st Giro will be special for Sidi. The company from Maser has produced a limited edition Sidi Shot dedicated to the Corsa Rosa which is the official shoe for the 2018 Giro d’Italia. It has already been available at the finest bike shops since mid-April. This limited edition is part of the Giro’s official merchandise, so it’s available from the Giro’s official online shop and every day at the Giro business village.
