SIDI CAPTURES THE FAR EAST- Sidi champions and all their victories on the roads of China.

The 2017 season is coming to a close, but Sidi champions are still hungry for victory. Major cycling recently hit the roads of China, the country with the largest number of bikes in the world; in a population of about 1.4 billion there are more than 500 million bicycles. People still use bicycles here, primarily for work and as a means of transportation, but now even bike racing as a sport is becoming increasingly more popular and gaining a widespread audience.

For the last race on the 2017 World Tour calendar, the Tour of Guangxi, Fernando Gaviria was the star of the show. The Colombian sprinter from team Quick-Step Floors won no less than 4 of the 6 stages in the Chinese event, therefore clinching the points classification. This was a great poker for the Colombian, to add to the hand he scored in the Giro d’Italia back in May, when he won 4 stages and even wore the Maglia Rosa, winning the final points rankings in the Italian race, too.

So this is how Fernando Gaviria closed out an unforgettable season: the first victory came in Argentina in the month of January, the last one was attained here in China at the end of October. It has been a lot of hard work these past 10 months, but there has also been plenty of success along the way. Along with his team mate Marcel Kittel, a total of 14 victories make Gaviria the most triumphant Sidi rider in 2017.

Before the Tour of Guangxi, another prestigious success had arrived from China for Jakub Mareczko from team Wilier Triestina – Selle Italia, a team sponsored entirely by Sidi. At the Tour of Taihu Lake (10-17 October), the Italian rider scored 5 stage victories to capture the final general classification for the Chinese race, a feat he had already pulled off in 2015. To date, Jakub Mareczko has accumulated 9 victories in 2017, confirming himself as an emerging talent in the sprints. But his prize cache could become even richer. Team Wilier Triestina - Selle Italia will be in China again from October 28 to November 5, for the Tour of Hainan, which will be their last event of the season.
