THE LOMBARDIA BELONGS TO SIDI AND CHAVES MAKES HISTORY! - In Bergamo Esteban Chaves is first, Rigoberto Uran third and Romain Bardet fourth.

Sidi is still on a roll, enjoying a string of successes. The stars are still these guys, Colombians Esteban Chaves (Orica-BikeExchange) and Rigoberto Uran (Cannondale), along with Frenchman Romain Bardet (AG2R-La Mondiale). We last saw them one week ago, as protagonists of a splendid triple play at the Giro dell ’Emilia, and we caught up with them again this week as authors of another fantastic feat on the roads of Il Lombardia.

The spotlights shone primarily on Esteban Chaves, the man of the hour, who already took home first place in the Giro dell’Emilia, on top of the San Luca wall. Yesterday at the finish line in Bergamo, after a 241 km, gruelling race, he also owned the 2016 Lombardia. After his podiums in the Giro and the Vuelta, Chaves has stood out as a major contender in this end of season, laying claim to what is nicknamed “the Classicof the fallingleaves”the last major classic of the season, which this year comes ahead of the World Championships to be held in Doha, Qatar, two weeks from now.

Chaves’ victory is historic: he is the first non-European to claim victory in this race, which has made it to its 110th edition; he is also the first Colombian to win a monumental classic (the other four classics of this calibre being the Milano-Sanremo, the Tour of Flanders, the Paris-Roubaix and the Liegi-Bastogne-Liegi).

Rounding out this latest Sidi masterpiece of the season, we find another Colombian, Rigoberto Uran in third place, and Frenchman Romain Bardet just shy of the podium in fourth place. Sidi is grateful, and now we are looking forward to the World Championships in Doha with enthusiasm and determination.
