SIDI A MAJOR PLAYER FROM THE VERY START IN THE MOUNTAIN BIKE XC WORLD CUP - In Cairns, Australia, Nino Schurter wins the first season race and Julien Absalon is third.

The World Cup for the mountain bike, cross country specialty, kicked off this past weekend from the “Land Down Under”, Australia. Therefore, after a year’s break, Australia has returned to hosting a stage of the MTB World Cup.

Right from the start, the first race of the season brought electrifying thrills to the Sidi colours. It looks like this year the men’s elite category will feature an all-Sidi duel between World Champion Nino Schurter and the great Julien Absalon, which should keep fans on the edge of their seats. The first round went to the Swiss rider. Nino Schurter (Scott-Odlo Mtb Racing Team) won on the difficult and spectacular track laid out within the Cairns Smithfield Mtb Park in Queensland. Frenchman Julien Absalon (Bmc Mtb Racing Team) took third place after staging a remarkable comeback following a flat tyre that unfortunately slowed him down in the beginning of the race. Frenchman Maxime Marotte (Bh-Sr Suntour-Kmc) managed to squeeze himself in between these two Sidi colossal, world class MTB riders to finish second.

As always, Sidi Sport champions were battling it out in the dust and mud of the race and shining on the podium in their Sidi Drako Carbon Srs shoes, which are the top models in the Sidi Sport brand’s off road collection.

Julien Absalon will have plenty of chances to challenge his rival. The next stage in the World Cup series will be held in May (21-22), in Albstad, Germany. This is going to be a long, compelling season for the fat tyres. In addition to all the World Cup events on the schedule there are also the European Championships (in Huskvarna, Sweden, 5-8 May), the World Championships (at Nove Mesto, in the Czech Republic in June) and especially the 2016 Rio Olympics (in Brazil in the month of August).
